DIY Laundry Detergent

Updated: Mar 15, 2019

You can now buy most laundry detergents in your local wholefoods or zero waste shops, but if you do not live near either than maybe this method would be more preferable. This DIY laundry detergent is great to make in bulk and can work out a lot cheaper than visiting your local supermarket (also saves your plastic footprint).

1 bar of castile soap

2.5 cups of washing soda

1 cup of distilled white vinegar

Essential oil of choice (depending on what I wash I choose rose or lavender)

Ice cube tray

Small container for laundry cubes.

First start by grating the bar of castile soap

Add the grated to the soap to a bowl

Add the washing soda

Finish by adding the cup of distilled white vinegar with essential oils (only add 6-10 drops of oil)

Mix until the consistency is even and thick

Add the mixture into ice cube tray (try to ensure that the mixture is patted down well with minimal gaps in the tray, this holds the cubes together better)

Place the tray in the freeze for 3 hours to set.

Finally place the cubes into your container of choice and keep in a cool area and out of reach of children.
